Update (March 31st 2024): The “most searched” list functionality has been restored and it is now working as intended. The image serving issue was resolved when the blog post was originally created. The restoration of the “most searched” list means that all issues mentioned in this notice have been resolved. Thanks for your patience everyone!
On March 30th 2024 shortly after 1AM Eastern, we experienced some issues with the website that resulted in two user-facing issues. The two areas that experienced issues were: image serving and the “most searched” list.
Image Serving
Due to an internal experiment that was activated on the production backend, the images on the website stopped displaying properly (and would instead throw an HTTP error). This occurred for most images on the website. This did not impact anything but images on the website. During this time, you may have been greeted with the “missing” placeholder for all images.
Solution: We reversed the backend changes and reverted the experiment on the image serving module. Image serving was restored.
Most Searched
An issue appeared that resulted in the most searched list displaying unexpected results. We’re still working on identifying the cause. We’ve restored an older dataset for the time being.
Solution: We’ve restored an older dataset for the “most searched” list and will continue to work on restoring the live “most searched” list as quickly as possible.
Thanks for your patience! We’ve removed the maintenance banner for the time being as the website is back to normal operation.
